Empowering Widows in Wakiso District
In early 2023, FFSF launched a micro-finance and tailoring initiative targeting 50 vulnerable widows in the Wakiso area. Providing them with sewing machines, capital, and intensive training, these women have transformed from struggling to feed their children to managing thriving local garment businesses. The initiative not only fostered financial independence but also created a strong support network among the women, significantly reducing instances of poverty-driven domestic disputes in their communities.

Recognizing that lack of clean water heavily impacted school attendance, especially for young girls, our team constructed three solar-powered boreholes in rural Kasese. Previously, students walked over 5 kilometers daily for water, exposing them to risks and fatigue. Today, over 1,200 students have safe drinking water right on their school grounds. School retention rates have soared by 40%, and waterborne diseases have virtually disappeared from the participating schools.
